MCKINSTRY
Project: Reconceive the McKinstry website as part of an overall brand refresh.
Challenge: McKinstry – one of the country’s leading and most innovative design/build mechanical contractors – had grown so quickly that their customers, and even some of their employees, were unaware of their wide range of capabilities. The new website would need to communicate this range in a way that captured and held the attention of those who visited it.
Solution: I came up with the idea of an interactive website in which a multiple story virtual building told the story of McKinstry capabilities quite literally one floor at a time. Visitors could visit different floors to watch the building’s tenants working and living productively, thanks to McKinstry’s “smart building” technologies.
My Role: Beyond creating the original concept, I directed and participated in the coming together of the site, including daily collaborations with the lead designer, account executive, and copywriter.
Results: Current McKinstry clients, potential clients, and staff all gave overwhelming praise to the new website, and commented on how much it taught them. Several other design/build companies across the country lauded the site’s creativity and observed that it brought needed humanity to the category.
